GW guerrilla warfare - where to start

I was wondering what countries were good starting places for GW in games with low starting funds. Which countries in Europe in particular (if any). Is it a good world game strat? Crossing oceans to attack seems really long and expensive with only 2 marines / sub...

In Europe low starting funds you want to be in a place where militia can reach everywhere, so basically the Balkans. Serbia and Hungary are great cheap starting places for GW in Europe. Everywhere works pretty well in the Balkans with GW though.

It's not expensive since your marines are half price. Though it does take longer than MoS obviously. GW is a great world game strategy.

It gets better when you have the faster marine/cheaper marine upgrades and the sub capacity upgrade, it's pretty nice.

I normally use GW Germany. But I have a particularly long time using that combination.. I recommend sticking to GW Ukraine / GW UK.

OK, so Balkans, Ukraine, UK and Hungary. Thanks! I really need the sub capacity upgrade for worldgames though... crossing oceans is way too costly.

Don't forget Germany. GW Germany is powerful.

In games with relatively good starting funds (say 10-15K), do you find it's useful to still pick a small country? I'm asking because in big countries you start with all these useless infantry and less money. If you pick a small country, you have more money and you still get plenty 1st turn reinforcements. Also, you can usually capture a good income country by turn 2 or 3.

BTW, I tried a couple of games with Balkans and won even in one game where I was "allyfagged" 2 vs me (+1 player allied with all). Tried another game as Portugal but that didn't go so well; I was using a touchpad on a laptop - I don't recommend this for 2min turns! - and was allyfagged again.

If you're in a 10 - 15k game, as GW, you're fine. 10k Germany is strong. 15k Germany is stronger but I'd recommend using a better strategy (everyone else's abilities are supercharged, they'll go for expensive but powerful strategies like MOS or RA or Blitz .. typically less educated mid ranks).

If you're planning on picking a small country in a 10k funded game, I'd recommend Ukraine and even Sweden. Just don't pick Slovakia or Montenegro. Hungary is iffy.

It also depends on everyone else's pick. If there is a Germany and you pick Austria, you have to understand that Germany expands most in the Balkans. You'll be surrounded if you don't use your strategy wisely.

Greece is a viable option.

But again, be mindful. If there is an Italy or a Turkey be prepared for the obstacles they may present.

Yeah I have done good as Pakistan. Also if I had to pick anything in the Balkans Serbia is usually the best choice. The sub capacity upgrade does wonders for world games. Faster marines upgrade helps a lot. Other then that and what everyone else has suggested you should be fine. Never tried GW Sweden. I wouldn't try it, I would use NC or something in Sweden. Where you can make the most of what little reinforcments you do get.

GW Pakistan is very powerful.

Funny you mentioned that, I just started in a world game with GW in Pakistan. Didn't know it was a good choice .
Last time I played a world game, I started as GW Brasil. I managed to get the Americas + sub-Saharan Africa, but you already had Eurasia... Didn't work out so well for me in the endgame. I tried to pull off the learster trick with marines, but didn't have time to get enough troops across by turn 50. Cross-ocean attacks are expensive with this strategy.
Gotta get that sub capacity upgrade.

It was probably 10x worse when you have no upgrades or understanding of how GW Vietnam is supposed to be played.

I'm pretty sure it's just a term for how learster takes lots of land real quick in 1 move.

Ha, my blitz easily takes care of marine attacks, just build as much inf as possible and go wall crazy, from there you can take back the cities that your enemy focused on. And I keep double/triple layers of militia walls to give me time to sweep the land for marines and not be surprised, taking into account the money needed to plan my prior turns.

The learster move works best against noobs IMO.

Yeah it's easy when they don't even wall, you should use marines against those who don't wall even if it isn't your strat or they are nerfed. I got half of middle east (had half already) and india against an ally fag noob in one move with blitz, then the rest quit .

I personally dislike the trash infantry given by most high income and reinforcement areas, eg. France, because, infantry is garbage in GW. I kill them ASAP

10 k :

Brazil Southeast,Pakistan.

5 k :

Brazil South,Lebanon,Serbia,Canada Ontario,Poland,Belarus.

3 k : NK, Uruguay.

3k/5k Ireland is good too :3
Balkans + Gw is good, militias have good range and they reach near caps.
