I don't mean to be offensive, but you're incredibly narrow-minded and incapable of critical thought. I don't know whether you're trolling or Irish, but my point was that our "needs" need not be defined by something with as broad of a scope as "plants" or the "Sun," but rather the real conditions for life. Of course, life in itself does not necessarily flourish without other externalities, in which case other variables may be involved. As far as I'm concerned, we do not "need" plants, just as we do not "need" milk; if oxygen, water, and real or artificial sunlight is available, then life may continue.
