In the past, there have been several suggestions for an
AtWar TeamSpeak Server. However, there are a few issues with that proposition. The first, and most pertinent, is that TeamSpeak servers cost money.
AtWar, in it's current state, is completely free, and requires almost nothing from the players, other than a browser. The transition to HTML5 contributed to this as well, expanding the demographic of the game from the small group of idiots who still use Internet Explorer or Safari to almost everyone. TeamSpeak is not only it's own program(as opposed to being browser-based), but it is only available on a select number of platforms, and it costs money for the Client mobile apps. I, personally, use a Chromebook. There is no Teamspeak for ChromeOS, but I can play AtWar perfectly fine. Fortunately, there is a solution to this dilemma. This solution is called Discord. Discord is functionally a duplicate of Teamspeak under a different name. However, Discord has a few key features that Teamspeak does not. For example, Discord can be used without limitation in a browser. Discord servers AND clients are completely free. Discord is far more user-friendly, easy to moderate, and the developers are very in-touch with their users. Just read the
Change Log. Ultimately, it is safe to assume that Discord is better suited to the AtWar community and the nature of the game.
-In a recent update, Discord incorporated a function that works not only with Steam games, but with games from other sources, such as Minecraft. This could bode well for AtWar.
Are you a rebel? Do you think actually reading a single part of this post is for squares? Well, worry not! I found out after typing this entire post that Discord summed it up in a 1000x800 pixel area on their webpage!
