Life in Poverty, or Death in Wealth?

Currently, many species face extinction due to our obvious necessity of power, infrastructure, and energy. Now, we face the baring reality: Is the killing off of many species, the detriment to society, the guilt of this action, and the eventual problems linked to this worth it? Give me your opinion: Which is more important: Life, or Money.

In our modern society, money is needed to survive, so i'm gonna quote myself:
Money is needed for life, but money should never replace your life

Edit: i actually sayed this, but the sense is the same:
Power is needed to allow morality, but power should never replace morality
