Hey, guys, some of you may have heard of my increasingly popular Medieval 1200 AD scenario. I have quite a few more in the works, including (this list will change over time):

1200 AD: Europe
Crusades 3 Team Game: Europe
1300 AD: Eurasia
1300 AD: World

This is essentially a home for the scenarios I'll be continually publishing over the summer. Make comments, suggestions, or requests and I'm all ears.

I pride myself on having the most historically accurate pre-1900 scenario in Afterwind (I've actually looked at all competitors, haha), but it's really difficult to get historically accurate city names, especially for cities that didn't exist back then. So I'll need a fellow history buff who's good with research and search engines to help me out with doing all the city names; I need the city names for the first of my maps done before I can clone it and make more. Any help would be much appreciated, and you get free tracking cookies as payment. Cheers!

Okay, I hate you, haha. I was planning on making this post. But anyways, great job, Amok and Ivan, even though most members are alternate accounts, guests who join one day and leave, and people who haven't been on in half a year BUT STILL. Congrats.

Winning 2k SP games with my rank 3 alt, the fact that people keep starting my scenario, noticing I surpassed Ivan in rep somehow without even realising it, and medals.

Out of AW? It's summer, need I say more?

Why not make scenarios mod-approved before they are allowed to be played? That way the new upload-image map thing is not abused. Just a suggestion.

I quite like this idea, but it doesn't change the fact that EVERYONE will be playing scenarios, and most of them will be total unbalanced glitchy crap. A & I said it'll take a while to make it too, and even then, it'll be full of bugs. I personally want more features for normal games, more options, and more strats beforehand. We haven't even hit 100k players, either. I love the idea of custom maps, but I'd like a larger game and community to support it.

So I went on the main page today and saw the latest post. "Epic Custom Maps Announcement." I immediately began worrying about what the game will become. I love lots of the stuff on the Ideas and Suggestions forum, but I always laughed at everyone wanting custom maps. If we implement custom maps, I guarantee you two things: 50% of the games will be scenarios, and more than 75% will be crap. We're not a huge community, that doesn't leave many normal/good games left. I've always loved the ideas of things like "pop casualties," "cargo ships," and "more game options," and I'd much rather the normal game be fleshed out before we introduce a whole other realm. Let the game grow, in both number of players and amount of features, and then put in the custom maps for a, as Ivan put it, "new game from scratch."
Just my two cents. If all of you vote yes and promise to make non-crap games, I'll withdraw my concerns. So what do you think?

Basically, I got obsessed with Risk, but none of my friends enjoy playing it. So I went all over the 'Net looking for "online risk." Found websites with lists of online Risks, and found an interesting website that I couldn't frickin figure out (or my browser was bad). So then on the third page of my Google search, "Afterwind- Free browser based multiplayer strategy game (Risk, Civilization, Axis & Allies)" whose description read, "In the best traditions of Risk and Civilization, you fight against other players for world domination on a real world map, with 200 countries and 500 cities." I saw it on the front page of Kongregate before, but I paid no mind because I'm not into multiplayer games.
So I created an account with the username I usually use, AND IT WOULDN'T WORK. I considered ragequitting and just going back to Civ4, but I really wanted a Risk like game so I kept trying, and for some reason, it wouldn't connect to the game. Then I tried it on Firefox instead of IE, and it somehow worked. "This better be a good game if I had to spend an hour trying to connect." It was better than Risk.
Basically, I can thank 3 things for my being here. A. The fact that there are no good online Risks, B. Whoever the heck wrote that advertising thing on the front page, C. Mozilla Firefox. I switched to Firefox afterward, SCREW YOU INTERNET EXPLORER!!!

A very interesting read, you sound like a game critic (Not a bad thing). I'll have to agree with your reasons for most people playing games, my most important points are strategy, fun, and lust. With strategy, I LOVE THE NEW TB UPDATE!!! (Kidding, let's not start that, haha) I'm satisfied with the strategy level as it is: when I want an easy game that I don't have to think about, I choose SM. When I want strategy, anything else. Or just a more thought out SM. As the game is continuously evolving, new features will certainly come into play that up the strategy level and make it more interesting. Pop casualties! Cargo ships! More diplomacy! Another TB update! This game is sure as hell more complicated than Stratego or Risk, some of my favourites, so I think we're good.

When it comes to fun, the multiplayer aspect and the "conquer the world" genre do it for me. I don't really like the idea of introducing more randomness, especially negative. The rares bug me already; it's horrible when my opponent randomly finds 10 merc legions or 5 heavies, and it feels bad to know that I've won because I rushed him with 10 partisans. I think negative random events would make it worse. Perhaps random stuff that doesn't affect games too much, but are just for kicks? Renaming units, events that alter income, stuff that brings in minute amounts of cash, (You founded Microsoft! 400 gold. You founded APPLE!!! 30000 gold!) With options, I totally agree, I've seen your thread before somewhere. Spicing up the game wouldn't hurt anything.

I have commitment issues with most games, but Afterwind has somehow managed to hold me in for half a year. Incentive for me is just to get good, win, and make friends, all of which I do often. Lust is great, but I'd prefer the devs to update strategy rather than visuals. If they have the time, of course, more explosions and sound effects would be cool. I got bored with the music a long time ago, one reason Civ4 is great in this aspect is the tons and tons of soundtracks for each stage of the game. Experience? Meh, the Internet will be the Internet. You really can't change how others act unless you get stricter mods (no fun) or more mods (unfeasible). Only the Americans are causing trouble though, there are NEVER any trolls and jerks outside of it. Ban all Americans! (Don't, I don't want to be banned)

Overall, I'd say 8/10, good game, great game for a browser, but retail games beat it in various aspects. B+. I don't think 7/10 is a C-, in that case, 1/10 to 5/10 would all be F. Harsh, haha.

Ooh, I like Hugosch's idea. Putting infantry into Russia Central is both realistic and makes Ukraine less OP by making Moscow harder to take and depriving it of those essential early troops and money. If this doesn't work, just decrease reinforcements in Ukraine by 2 or 3, or buff up it's income so its starting cash lowers by 1-3k. Not both, though, that'd be cruel.

I'll also have to agree on Turkey, it doesn't have much access to income and it has low starting cash, it's not really OP. Splitting it up would be rather odd, considering we haven't even split India. It'd change the game too much unnecessarily, and would overpower the western portion with low income (and cost) and a lot of reinforcements.

No harm in nerfing SM again, of course. SM is the strongest strat for Ukraine, and although it's OP with other strats, SM makes it far too strong.

Afterwind's awesome as a browser game, but it simply doesn't have enough features to work as a retail game. As it is now, I'd pay 10 bucks, but if it had more modes, more players, cooler graphics, and more complex mechanics, I'd gladly pay 20 dollars upwards. Unfortunately, that'd be a ripoff of Civilization multiplayer, which I already have. So yeah, I like it as a free browser game.

30.05.2012 在 A Larger Europe Map
Well, we have a Europe + map, I say add a Europe ++ map. I've always liked playing "Eurasia and Africa" better than "Eurasia," only because it includes North Africa. I suggest adding a map that includes all of the countries in the Mediterranean plus Syria and Jordan, essentially merging "Mediterranean" and "Europe+." It would make Spain, Turkey, and Italy more interesting to play with the addition of Morocco and Algeria, Tunisia and Libya, and Egypt and part of Middle East, respectively.

I'm sure this idea has been suggested before, but I couldn't find anything with search. Sorry if it has.
